In order for our reviews to be fair, transparent and most importantly useful, they need to follow the same standards and rating system.
Our ratings are split in 2 parts. Dry and water reviews. Dry reviews are made when we get the items and cover everything that’s not important for the actual fishing. The water review then gives you an idea how the product functions in (or at the water for different tools).
In this post we want to set the standard for what is covered and rated in each of these parts.
For our ratings we use a 10 point system, which is translated into a 5 star system for other parts of the site. If we translate to a star system we round down.
The price should be compared to other items in the same category and how much the product would cost outside of China.
Good packaging should make it easy to tell what’s inside. For applicable products, for instance lures, it should tell the weight and size. Ideally, it’s also resealable. A nice design is also a plus. Of course, the main purpose is to protect the product from damage.
Shipping should be quick of course. Shipping times should be quantitatively measurable so before our first review we thought of the following system. Of course when it’s our fault due to not accepting the package or other reasons that time is substracted.
What’s the early impression of the manufacturing quality? A good quality item kept a good condition during shipping and makes the impression that it keeps that condition for a long time.
This is a rating of how well the product performs catching fish. This is arguably the most important aspect and includes numerous sub-aspects depending of the type of item.
Ease of use
How easy is it to cast the lure? How easy is it to deploy a tool. The perfect item can be used without any problems.
How well does the product hold up over time and multiple uses? A perfect item shows no signs of use and makes a sturdy impression.
